Rucksack for walking

Rucksack for walking: 9-point check

Your rucksack for walking should have the right features rather than “too much of a good thing”.

  1. Flap with compartment:
Room for bits and pieces. Practical: another compartment on the inside for purse, keys and papers.

  2. Volume:
25 – 35 litres per person should be enough for a day’s walk.

  3.  Side pockets:
Not absolutely essential for rucksacks for walking.

  4.  Stick holder:
    To safely stow your sticks.

  5. Shoulder straps:
The shoulder straps are pre-shaped so that they do not dig in. The chest strap prevents them from slipping sideways from the shoulder.

  6. Hip strap:
The heavier the load, the more important the distribution on the outside of the hip strap.

  7. Ventilated back:
Important: either via a mesh (airflow system) or by means of air-permeable foam pads with ventilation channels (see Air Tech system).

  8. Water bottle facility:
Pocket or fastening points in the main compartment for a water bottle and additional outlet for the tube.

  9. Rain cover:
Protects the rucksack from wet weather.
